- Foxglove was born wrapped in the pallid skin and dark hair of his human father. Curiously, the artifacts of the Dratori are more implicative in his composition; the slight point of his ears, the amber caste to his honey-brown eyes and the lean of his tall frame.

Personality
“I always feel like I’m eating when I’m reading. And the need to read (…) is like an awful raging hunger.”
― Susan Sontag

The intensity of this young man is as focused as his interest; keenly wrapped in levels of whatever mindfulness he learned from his mother's native culture and otherwise carefully compartmentalized. The neglect of his Father and kin caused Foxglove to quickly internalize his struggles, thus to the outside world he is a composed if not thoughtful mask; there is little trace of the feeling that roils beneath the surface. In truth, it this reason among others that he neither seeks nor entertains the idea of intimacy. To allow others in is to invite the same treatment of his family. Most of his interests in others are purely academic if not borne out of a desire to use them for his own gain outright.
He does however find his passion in literature. One way to connect to the more material aspects of the world is through the application of the things he's read--including, but not limited to feeling. Poetry is a secret love and while he does not write it, he readily consumes whatever he can get.
History
“But who had I become? I knew that I was not who I had been, but I did not yet know what it would mean to exist in the world, at least not outside the private, silent realm of my own ragged heart.”
― Jennifer Finney Boylan

Born in the Free Cities of the Southeast to a Dratori research aid and her magus, Foxglove's existence was a drunken concession and on the whole, an accident. He was well-loved by a mother whose unrequited love for his Father led to heartbreak, desperation and ultimately, ruin. Ever after, that love was supplanted by the hard expectations of the man who bore him. The magus ensured Foxglove a proper education to secure his future: he was initiated into the arts of scrivening and alchemy frightfully young, in order to resume his mother's position. But between there was no love lost. In success, there was no praise and in failure, only a cold indifference that left the boy resolved to work harder until the day he would be recognized.
A day that ultimately, would never come. As his Father grew older, he became increasingly less interested in Ferrian's future. Instead, he was utilized as just another tool (in the same fashion of his Mother). In his early twenties, Foxglove came to realize there would be no moment in which he was to take up the mantle and carry on the work. It was after one particularly dangerous experiment that nearly cost his life that he realized the schemes of his Father not only to be indifferent to his well-being, but furthermore--an overt attempt to extend his life through that of his child. It was then that he fled to Kalzasi, if only to keep a low profile long enough to come into a power and position all his own.
