Lets Get Elemental! Ⅲ
ϟ Like when he received his reaving and warrior training, it was time to test his resolve on what he learned with Vagos. Entering the arena, he could feel the buzz and hum of aether as the Masqueraders' Aya had on retainer, began to build the environment. To his surprise, there was no change in the appearance of the arena; however, the difference was that winged lizards were dotted across the arena. Not dragons or wyverns, but winged lizards the size of alligators scattered about. Without missing a beat, they began their attack, firing fireballs at the gladiator.
Taking what he learned, he began blocking them as they came using Stone Wall. He could feel the heat from the fireballs as they closed in and was doing his best to deflect them or shield himself from them with the defensive technique, but realized that staying in one place would only prove to overwhelm him. Instead, he gathered wind at his feet, utilizing the Wind Walking technique to evade them more effectively. No, he would rather not waste time on defense and opted to go on the offensive, using the wind at his feet to glide and maneuver around the arena a bit more easily.
Soon, the area was filled with a sizable group of fake drakes as Barakael began summoning the halo of fireballs he learned with Fireball Assault. He made his way to the arena stands, where twenty or so winged lizards were waiting for him, along with what seemed to be the alpha of them all. Without hesitation, he rushed the group, firing a barrage of fireballs, taking out the unfortunate first six drakes in the front of the group. As the others began to surround him, he'd simply sidestep them, gliding across as he would transition to Air Veil, using it to launch himself into the air.
Five more of them began to fly after him. He knew he could stay airborne for a long time, and he would have to take them out before landing on the ground again or else they would be trouble for him, as he could see the other drakes getting into a surround and conquer style of formation. Using what was left of the fiery halo, he shot off the remaining fireballs, watching as the illusory drakes exploded into dust. Dust and dirt kicked up as he came back to the ground, settling back into the Wind Walk, he glided back across the ground, as three of them within the scaly horde were firing from a distance at him.
Barakael wasn’t fazed as he had been training so far to handle such, both in his martial training with Aya and his recent elemental one with Vagos. With little effort, he was able to dodge the incoming projectiles with fair ease, Wind Walking allowing him to flow out of the way. He quickly moved in and was able to put them down using Blazing Roar to clear them from where they were perched. With fourteen down already, only six more remained and then the alpha. The gladiator, now surrounded by the remaining six monsters, watched as they began to circle him like wolves circling a wounded animal, waiting for the moment to end it all.
It was several moments before they all went to attack him at once. He figured they believed that if they could overwhelm him, they could win, but like the others, they were sadly mistaken. With a light leap into the air, he came down stomping both his feet to erect the Crag Shell barrier. The remaining drakes yelped and squealed before disappearing from being impaled on the spiky defensive dome. Now his attention turned to the alpha of the group. Seeing all its minions defeated seemed to agitate it as it roared at him before taking to the air and began to contort and glow.
It transformed in size, and before he knew it, Barakael watched as a large titan-like figure crashed into the ground. From the debris, it stood at least four feet taller than him, its gaze affixed to him like a predator to prey. A smirk of excitement formed on his face as it glowed; the hue of its body shifted between red, blue, green, and orange. A groaning roar sounded as the giant began its attack, its form the hue of orange as it began hurling boulders at him. Wind Walking, he would avoid the incoming projectiles and counter with his own, summoning another halo of flame. His fireball assault met and clashed with the flying debris of stone.
Through the settling dust cloud, Barakael rushed the figure, zipping around on wind-aided feet to the left side of the giant, pelting it with multiple fireballs. He watched as the hue of orange slowly vanished with each hit. He was slowly figuring out how to beat it, but he needed to be sure. He would continue his assault, all the while dodging and evading the hurled rocks at him until all the glowing orange was gone from the giant's frame, watching it take a knee. Getting some distance, he watched as the color that replaced the orange was now green, and gusts of wind began to whip around it.
He knew that his flames would never reach it if wind was involved, and so he couldn't count on what he had learned, but remembered Vagos saying that he would come up with his own techniques as long as he allowed himself to be open to the voices of the elements. The Earth came whispering into his ear, calm and stoic, like a mountain lion stalking its prey. He communed with the element as the wind charged giant extended its hands, sending out a torrent of wind at Barakael. Listening to the earth and following instinct, he stomped forward and called for the Crag Shell. A barrier of spiked stone jutted forth from the ground, blocking the wind that was being blasted at the gladiator.
From that, he learned a new move following the instructions of the element. "Stone Rush!" he roared as the spikes on the barrier launched from it like missiles at the giant, the impact causing it to groan as the green began to fade. A new set of spikes would come forth, and Barakael would repeat the process of launching them at the goliath until its green glowing hue was completely drained from it. It fell to one knee before the temperature around it began to rise, as glowing hues of red came forth.
He listened for the remaining three elements, and to his surprise it was wind that came to answer, eager and ferocious to snuff out the flames of the giant. It stood and belowed, sending forth a stream of blazing fire, to which Barakael met head on as fire was like kin to him. Wind Walking, he surfed his way forward, dancing around the behemoth as it spat fire at him. All the while, the gladiator was getting instructions from the wind, learning how to be as fast and nimble as a tiger.
That was the impression he was getting from the voice the wind spoke to him in, and the move it was teaching him was just as fearsome as the tiger it emulated. "Sky Claw!" he roared, circling to the right of the giant as he spewed a wave of fire at him. Wind currents pooled around Barakael's hands before being sent forward like a tiger swiping its claw at prey. The wind arcs collided with the fire, cutting through it and hitting the giant, throwing it off balance.
He knew he didnt want to sit through the last two elements, and he could hear the wind urging him to finish this thing off quickly. Pooling more wind currents around his hands he darted forth, charging the construct as it regained its composure and let loose another stream of flame. Barakael met it head-on once again, this time launching into the air with Air Veil. "Sky Claw!" he roared again, the clawing wind currents shredding through the flames as he flew faster, pouring more aether into keeping himself airborne.
The flames he carved through led him straight to the goliath's head, and with his left hand, another Sky Claw attack severed its head. The loud thudding of it hitting the ground, along with the collapse of its body echoed in Barakael's ear as he fell to the ground as well. Aether depleted, he thudded across the arena floor, the earth softening itself to cushion his fall. Exhausted, he looked up into the sky as the illusory arena gave way to the actual training arena. His gaze turned to see Aya and Vagos coming out to him.
"Well done, lion cub, well done indeed." Vagos celebrated, helping Barakael to his feet. Aya smiled and patted his back as the two walked back to the living quarters of the estate. He was ready for his debut, that much was certain now. ϟ
