“Pleasure doing business with you” the man said as Kaiko handed over half the pay to get her ship repaired. It was the first time in almost a year that she had stepped on land but her ship needed repairs before she set sail again. She was not as nervous or upset about it as she thought she would be. Saying the last trip to land nearly killed her but this time she was still in sight of the sea. Even if the sea was mistakenly named a lake. She would unconsciously cover the scars on her arms and then tapped the flask. The almost always full water flask tied to her side let her know that someone in the universe still wanted her to live even if the god captain of the duck didn't. That alone had been enough to keep her mood steady even on land.
With her ship getting the care it needed it was time she took some proper care for her soul like any good sailor in a new port. Actually there was a short checklist. Dock, repairs, tavern, rum, song. Maybe not in that order but still those are the things she was planning here. So tavern. Rum. Song. Kaiko would look around as she strolled down the dock. Stride remained unbroken even as she realised what port she was at. She would look across the docks and water to confirm the great ship was not here. The place was busy and loud but completely free of anyone she recognized.
Relieved she would relax. Her grip on her staff was no longer tight as she continued to walk. She had no true destination in mind though music would call to her like a siren song as it always does. Soon she would walk into a tavern without caring to look at its name.
The small tavern was bustling with all kinds of people. Ork, human, winged and everything in-between seemed to be here. A quick glance around showed that only one small table was left unclaimed so she would make her way towards it. Once she sat she would look towards the band that played something upbeat and new to her. The words in some language she didn't understand but that was okay. She was satisfied with simply hearing a decent tune. Once someone finally came to her table she would order rum and whatever the special happened to be today. After they moved on she would close her eyes and listen. It had been over 2 years since last she stepped into a lively tavern to simply have some fun. And she found peace in the chaos of talking sailors and strange music. She could pick out small parts of conversation. Some she understood about work and how people seemed to like or hate their work. Some conversations she did not understand, but her main focus was on the music.
