₪ There he stood at the entrance of the Warrens, overlooking the descent into the first level. He was awaiting Dhasali & Mariette., as he wasnt coming down here alone, not yet anyway. Today he would be plotting a course for where the supposed Stygian Eye was being held. Reaching into his pocket he took out the map that was drawn for him, crude in nature but with enough landmarks, he figured it would be easy to find the place.
Siorey didnt know how long it would take for them to reach the location specified or if it was even the right location, but that's why they were venturing there in the first place, to find out. He was a little nervous but that soon faded when he caught sight of his closest confidant and his mentor strolling up. He greeted both figures with a smile, straightening up his field armor for the journey into hell.
"Are you ready to get going, young lord?" a question that was posed as he stopped to regard his charge. "As far as I can tell, no one was following us, so you dont have to worry about this little endeavor being discovered." his mentor purred, stepping past the young circle mage venturing into the unwelcoming maw of the Warrens. "Well are you boys just gonna stand there or are we going to get moving?" she hissed, cutting her eyes at them, spurring both men to catch up with her.
"According to this map, it looks like the destination is somewhere within the second level of the Warrens." he explained, Mariette relieving him of said map and looking over it herself. He watched as her eyes danced over the paper in her hands, as she soaked in the details. Handing it back to Siorey she increased her pace, taking the lead. "How fortuitous for you, as I know a way down to the second level, so I shall take point."
The men laughed as Mariette took the lead into the warrens. For a while, there was no sound between them, silence so heavy it was deafening, but then Mariette interrupted it with some questions for the black robe. "Are you prepared for what comes with this Siorey." he asked, never looking at him as they continued to push through. "Are you certain you are ready to handle the amount of madness this artifact inherently brings with it. You saw what it did to someone just researching, imagine what would if you actually pull this off." she added, now looking back with a sharp eye at him.
"No offense, but my mental fortitude is a bit better than your friend" he said nonchalantly, looking over the strange pictography written within Duran's journal. He didn't really look back at her as well, but he knew she would not appreciate that remark. "Madness only befalls those who lack the mental prowess to withstand such. It also helps to know that madness is associated with the artifact to formulate a plan for it." he added in an almost deadpan tone as if he didn't truly care for her concern.
"Besides, if it means to keep an undiscovered artifact from being pilfered by idiotic men who can't see the value of it, I'll gladly take one the madness that comes along with it." he added, closing the leather-bound book and tucking it in the satchel he was carrying. "Bold and brazen are we? Just remember that I have invested time and knowledge into you and would truly hate to see it wasted on a fool who lost his mind to madness" she cut back at him.
Stopping for a moment, Mariette looked over the limitless cave expanse of the Warrens and then looked to Siorey & Dhasali. "We'll need to cut the travel time down if we want to get as close to the location specified as soon as possible." she noted, looking to Dhasali with a smile. "Be a dear and call us a friend to expedite our journey." she purred, which forced a sigh from the human male.
Taking a moment he closed his eyes he extended a hand forward and whispered a name. Entei. From behind them the sound of a horse came barrelling down upon them, a horse of ebon black with fiery glowing runes etched across its body. Galloping up to them the horse was large, large enough for all three of them to ride semi-comfortably.
With a smile, Mariette offered up her so Dhasali could give her a helping hand onto the spectral horse. "Marvelous, this will do just nicely. Now let's be off shall we." she purred, waiting for both men to mount the beast as well. When Dhasali mounted the spirit, reigns of fire reached out and laced his hands, and he looked back at Siorey and Mariette. "Hold on tight you too. Let me know where to go Lady Mariette." he said, cracking at the reigns of the spirit and the horse galloping off.
At least an hour into the journey, the three traveled and along the way, all that filled the air was the sound of Mariatte humming a light tune. It was a tune he remembered her humming while studying under her watchful eye. "What song is that?" he asked, tilting his head. She giggled and leaned into his ear, tickling it with a whisper. "A song my father used to sing to me when I was a little girl." she affirmed, looking to the cavernous ceiling as she began to break into song.
"Come, all yee lost souls, I'll take thee away, into the land of sorrows. Come, all yee lost souls, there's no time for you to stay, here in a world of mortals. Come, all yee lost souls, I'll take thee away, lead you to a place of comfort. Come, all yee lost souls, the time has come to play, here in my garden of shadows." that song took them into the night, or at least what Siorey felt was nighttime, the inhabitants of the Warrens more active than normal. Finding a relatively safe place, the trio stopped to rest for a bit.
Siorey was fixated on the book, looking over the bindings and covers as he heard Lyra's words echo in his ear. "That book; Is made of flesh; ink, binding and all, and the parchment does not appear to be sheepskin." her words whispering in his ear like a woman's seductive advances. "I recognize some of the intent, but whoever wrote this was skilled in their craft. It requires a key, a means to decrypt the meaning beyond what can be read from the scripts alone." he ran his finger over the pages of the journal, curious as to what was written within each page of the book.
He could tear away from it, as his fixation on learning the contents of the book took priority, at next to dealing with these rable who would squander such an oppertunity to discover something amazing. The more he thought about it the more it infuriated him, and closing the journal he stood to his feet. Thanks to Dhasali's Entei, they had covered more ground than they would have on foot which was good.
Looking to the others Mariette gave him a concerning look, a look a mother gives their child when she knows something is off. She approached him, placing a hand on his shoulder and pointing to a cliff at the far end of the cavernous valley below them. "Beyond that cliff is our entry to the second level of the Warrens. If this is what you truly wish for, we can continue, but I shall ask you once more. Are you sure you want to pursue this? There is no discovery worth your own sanity Siorey. What good is that mind of yours if you waste it on a fool's endeavor."
Placing a hand on top of her's he smiled. "Its a risk I'm will to take. Besides you should know I'd never turn a blind eye when fools squander knowledge for profit." he reassured her, moving to pack up his things and saddle back onto Entie so they could continue their journey. Mariette could only look with sigh, as she too began to pack up her things.
"I dont like the way this makes me feel, but I will see this through to the end only because its you." she whispered. ₪
