There was a lot to consider in the idea of suddenly appearing in a foreign land, without informing anyone that he was leaving or to where. Notes had been left to let his mother know where he was going when he left for Ecith, if not how he intended to get there or how long that might take. The excuse that he had not known himself, until he had done it, was both true and, at most, would have been chastised as irresponsible.

Knowingly Traversing into Kalzasi was another thing altogether. A premeditated and willful excursion, but one which he could also truthfully excuse as an impulse of his desire for pleasure. This desire, and its indulgence, was a well known facet of his personality and while it was sometimes mocked or criticized it had yet to be genuinely frowned upon. Getting away with it once was assured, a second attempt might be forbidden. Though, when he thought about it, the only person likely to notice his absence was Finn, if the human was awake enough to be observing the general symphony of the house and Raithen's was suddenly gone. Finn was unlikely to call him down or forbid him, but might, with no malice intended, inform other members of their family.

There was risk, physical, aetheric and social. Raithen's smile turned mischievous and sultry.

"Would we be in trouble if I did? If someone walked in on us, or felt my presence and came to check on you?"

The idea of showing up in Kaus' room and flopping face down into his bed for his scent had its appeal. Doing anything he wasn't technically 'supposed to' was always appealing, though rarely enough for him to go beyond the imagination.

"It would be sad to push that far and find only an empty room, though I could spend a night in your bed and see if you could smell me when you got back." Kaus returning, laying down, recognizing Raithen's musk and becoming instantly aroused held significal appeal. Enough that Raithen found himself responding to it as he imagined Kaus doing.

"You'd be in trouble if you didn't wait in my bed for me," he said, voice pitched low as if they were saying things that oughtn't to be overheard. "If I smelled you on the sheets, I would be sad, but I would also take my clothes off so I could feel where you had been on my skin..."

As he spoke of taking his clothes off, he did so. He was not so artful as a courtesan, but Raithen had seen what was under his clothes, had adored what was under his clothes, so there was a strange sort of confidence as he slowly peeled layers away to reveal what the man considered worth traveling from another continent to feel once more.

When he finally dropped trou, the loose cloth slipped down his hips and he stepped out of the puddle they made. He stretched, cat-like, in front of the mirror, even his wings reaching out until a little tremor ran through his body and he relaxed. His body was waking up. The air on his skin made him want for hands on his skin.

"Come to me, afreet," he said, recalling one of the demons of air and fire from the deep desert. Faux sigils cut fiery traceries into the air around him as if he were, in fact, summoning Raithen. The flames burned nothing, but cast ruddy light onto his pale skin, and flared bright in his eyes.

"Come to me."

The flirtatious smirk spread wide into a grin at the joking threat.

"Oh, I would, would I?" While Raithen's tastes didn't demand any additions to sex to make them interesting, he didn't object to playing roles within the bounds of a sexual encounter and had often enjoyed such. The low pitch and suggestions brought out a similar response.

"I have been in your bed, though I suppose you've washed me out of it by now. I should come back and renew my claim." Cloud colored eyes watched intently, angling his mirror as though that would allow him to see the other Avialae's body better. Shrugging, the sheets that he had been wrapped in fell to his waist, then below, revealing a fact that Kaus already knew, he wore nothing to sleep.

The act of disrobing, not a dance but almost one, the show that was intended of fire and skin were as effective as the one enacting them might hope. The Dux swore under his breath, considered, and then stood, mirror set to one side so only glimpses of his skin flashed now and then. His voice came through clearly,

"There had better not me any sort of murder magic on that pavilion of yours. And if I get arrested for this... well, actually, worth it." With that, the mirror Kaus was looking into went blank and then returned to reflecting the room, which is to say, Kaus' unclothed form, to himself.

The connection that the mirrors had held was like a guideline that Raithen held onto even after he cut the connections. Closing his eyes, he concentrated, felt his way from Ecith to the Umbrium a journey that he knew like it had been carved into his body. From the Umbrium to Kalzasi he had learned as a scholar might, intentionally, with thought and preparation. Combining the two was not easy, and he realized that he should choose one type of learning for long distance journeys from then on.

Slipping through to the abandoned rooftop garden helped, the idea of Kaus was there. Even so, the jump was larger than any Raithen had made so far and left him gasping for a long moment as though his lungs had been left behind. Determination still held him though, and as soon as he had his breath back, he took hold of the slipstream and leaped once more.

His perception of reality moving did not stop when his body did, landing on his feet but quickly dropping to one knee, and then hands and then to his hands as he attempted, clumsily, to catch himself while the world kept moving in a blur of colors around him. It was impossible to orient himself when his eyes wouldn't focus. Reaching out for Kinetics, the slipstream rune he knew far better, he tried to grab hold of something, anything to ground himself and get a sense of where he was.

Where he was, was Kaus' bedroom floor, but he couldn't understand that yet, and because of this, objects in the room began to move about randomly, mostly swinging towards the Avialae who looked, despite being naked, as though he were hunkered down trying to withstand a windstorm.

a moment, a love, a dream aloud,
a kiss, a cry, our rights, our wrongs
a moment a love, a dream aloud
a moment a love a dream aloud.

Raithen was gone and Kaus was left with his lust in his hand. He blinked. Then he felt the silent alarum of the wards around the Cintamani Pavilion; they recognized Kaus, of course, and so they weren't weaponized, but he and his sister and their châtelaine were alerted all the same.

Even as he felt that, he felt his bond come alive. While not so soul-deep as his connection to Kala, it was deeper than it had ever been, and he felt surrounded by Raithen—and he encompassed Raithen—within the space between one heartbeat and the next.

And then, between that heartbeat and the one that followed, Raithen appeared like a soldier back from war, mind and body battered by the slipspace. Of course Kaus had wanted to come, but he had hoped to see the Solunarian dux perhaps before the end of the season if he was lucky. Or into the next when they would have to fly high into the mountains to find snow to wrestle in, and the thinness of the air would excuse the lightheaded giddiness he felt sometimes in the other man's company.

When Raithen regained his aplomb, Kaus was kneeling beside him, arms around him, supportive, wing flung over him, protective. His face was buried in the crook of Raithen's neck, and he was murmuring soothing things, urging calm through their bond, projecting safety so he could relax and let himself recover from the exertion.

When he seemed capable, Kaus helped Raithen into his bed, prurient things mostly forgotten as he pulled a glass of water through the air and into his hand, the better to aid the other Avialae in sipping it.

"My hero," he murmured, adoring.

so stay there 'cause I'll be coming over,
and while our blood's still young—
it's so young—runs
and won't stop til it's over.
won't stop to surrender.

The bond burst back to life, like a lighthouse to guide Raithen back to himself. It was still a stomach churning, mind swirling struggle that took long minutes before he was able to process what was going on around him. It settled in slowly, but when at last the world was more than a riot of movement and color and he realized that he had, in fact, landed at his intended destination, he smiled. There was no question as to who was touching him, the golden lines of connections that tied him to Kaus were strong.

Turning his head slowly to keep the dizziness from returning, he said,

"My anchor." Before pressing into the other Avialae's arms. It would have been leaping into his arms, but they were already so close. They stayed there, just feeling each other's emotions for a little while and letting that be enough. When they did pull away enough to stand and move to a more comfortable perch on Kaus' bed, thoughts were beginning to return to normal. The water was welcome, and he drank when it was offered.

"I haven't saved you from anything yet." Heroes saved people or did deeds of renown in the name of their gods or patrons. A hand went to brush lightly over what Kaus had been showing off before Raithen had made his foolish leap. "Though I might before the night is out."

Teasing was easier than trying to articulate either his own stupidity in making so vast a jump without proper preparation, or even asking that the wards be lowered. It was also easier than trying to talk about the things he was feeling, in himself or through the bond. They were good things, but still not the sort he was used to speaking about.

"Unless guards are about to burst through the door to arrest me for trespassing. Then you could be my hero."

"You saved me from dark thoughts," he said quietly, brushing a kiss to a golden eyebrow.

As Raithen came back to himself, the immediacy of Kaus didn't take up all his attention. He could sense Kala now, as well, nearby. There was a quiet pulse of joy and welcome, and then that connection went dim. It did not disappear, but became rather like a hint of candle light visible around the edges of a thick arras. She offered them privacy, emotional and otherwise.

Kaus, at least, felt all his other bonds, those with the Silver Wings, dim as well—except for Aito, who was curious, even if lust wasn't that demon's primary sin. He also stretched languidly under Raithen's hand and offered a reciprocal caress, though he was thinking it might be best just to nest now, and return to such thoughts—and deeds—in the morning when Raithen had recovered. And Kaus had been fully asleep, after all.

"I suppose I could call for guards, but I don't want to share you just yet." Arms—and even the leg thrown over his legs—tightened a bit around Raithen. With a wing blanketing Raithen, he might even succumb to the racial trigger to sleep. In that, Kaus did have an advantage: he knew how their race worked.

"You fucking idiot," he murmured, laughing quietly, and then taking Raithen's wrist so he could kiss his fingertips. "That was monumentally stupid, but... thank you."
