The Macabre Monolith
There are a variety of reasons as to why people refer to the First Deep as "The Buried Empire" within the Warrens, one of them due to being able to discover ancient and mysterious structures left behind. It's clear that an ancient civilization dwelt here long ago, but as to whether there were just one or more, well that knowledge alone remains lost with the ages long passed. However not all remnants of the old world are gone, some sights still in fact remain standing even within the desolate expanse of the underground caverns.
The Macabre Monolith, as it has become known, is one such place where one may find such a remnant. It is unclear what it's purpose used to be, much less who actually built it long ago, but the Monolith is a peculiar structure built almost like an archway. Scholars and historians debated its existence upon discovery, but were left with little to no answers upon initial examination. However, during the season of Ash in the 120th year of the Age of Steel; one such scholar has recently made a breakthrough with her research.
The Monolith is a place that, when visited, generates a sense of morbid uneasiness, if one were to linger around it for very long that is. For whatever reason, death seems to heavily emanate from its empty archway, and a forlorn sense of melancholy can also plague one's thoughts after a while. Such is why it has earned its name, yet encircling the monolith appears to be four separate keystones, their connection to the structure still a mystery for the time being.
