Here they come!” Talon shouted to his companion as he drew his sword. Reaching within himself, Talon drew upon the flow of his aether. For a moment he almost hesitated but he tossed aside that hesitation as the immediate threat presented itself. He brought forth the swell of his aether, forming a tightly knit ball that he placed in the center of his left forearm. From there he spread the flow of the aether outward until it formed a circular shield that he then tasked with the simple mission of blocking physical force. It was a quick but efficient means of providing himself with a lightweight shield that could stave off an assault for at least a few hits until he could better maneuver himself into a stronger position. As it was, there in the ravine he didn’t have the most room to get out of the way of screeching creatures that were clawing their way out of the mouth of the cave he was faced with.

Talon held his ground as the creatures leapt into the skies emitting shrieks of feral fury. The young Novalys brought up his shield just as one of them came spiraling down. The impact rippled across the surface of his barrier. Talon felt the weight of the creature press against his arm but he used the momentum to fling the beast off to the side as he confronted more dangerous foes. Darting forward, he brought up his sword to slash across the body of one of the creatures as it let out a croak of pain and anger. Its innards spilled over the ground. Talon twisted, bringing up his blade to stab into the skull of the nearest monster. As he was bringing up his shield, a blast of fire scorched the earth directly in the path of a few shinaegri that had scuttled forward out of the dark. The smell of burning flesh and rot filled Talon’s nostrils. He resisted the urge to gag.

The fire was soon followed by a flash of raven wings as Aoren dropped out of the skies, his blades slicing through the neck of one of the monstrosities, decapitating it cleanly. The Kathar brought up a wing to shield himself from the leap of one of the nearby shinaegri. He used it to swat the abomination aside then followed suit by driving his blade through its skull. Talon brought up his barrier just in time to shield himself from the bony projectiles launched by a particularly grotesque looking creature. It was an amalgamation of tattered flesh and twisted bone spines that jutted out at odd angles. The projectiles bounced against his barrier and Talon saw a few cracks appear in the shield. He knew from that sign alone that it would only be a few more hits before the shield crumbled. He was not the most adept practitioner of Negation but he was growing better at it.

Talon reached out with his kinetics, forming a web of force around the creature as if moved. He raised a hand and made a clenching motion with his fist. The strands of the web cut through the ragged flesh of the monster and snapped through its bony spines. It let out a squeal of pain before it was sliced to pieces through the strands of the kinetic web. He turned just in time to see Aoren sever another of the creatures cleanly in half. The brief battle was brought to a close and the two of them stood staring at each other before looking around. Right as Aoren seemed about to say something, a bellowing growl echoed from the cave behind them. Talon turned to face the came as he heard the rumble of something angry, something foul and something hungry.

From the darkness of the cave emerged a much larger creature. It was a mass of bulbous flesh, writhing tentacles and the makings of an elongated face from which protruded a cracked bony snout. Eyeless sockets stared at Talon and Aoren but even in the absence of eyes, the young Novalys felt as though the creature could see them. It made the hairs on the back of his neck stand on end.

Oh you’ve got to be kidding me…” Aoren came to stand beside Talon as they both regarded the swollen mass of muscle, sinew and flesh that lumbered out of the dark cave.

Somaval.” Talon whispered the word. They were uncommon, especially on the surface. It was yet another testament to the fact that something was amiss in the Warrens, ludicrous as that sounded. The Somaval, or Hungered, were beasts of ruthless savagery a cut above the hordes of Shamblers that often sprung up.

Well…” Aoren drew in a deep breath. Reaching out with a hand, he touched Talon’s blade. There was a hiss and a pop as spidery tendrils of flame and smoke ghosted across the surface of his sword. In short order, Talon’s sword was Enmeshed in the touch of flames. Fire was Aoren’s specialty. He had no doubt that when the time came, his companion would choose it as his Arche element. It was well suited to his personality. “...now we have to kill it.

Talon shared a smirk with his companion. He watched as Aoren varnished his reaved swords in fire. Just as Talon placed an anchor and a shield upon one of his companion’s forearms to use as defense. The two of them adopted their stances and braced themselves for the fight ahead. The Hungered finished tearing off the head of one of the dead shamblers in its grasp, crunching on it in a grisly display of carnage.

Ready?” Talon let out a breath.

As I will ever be.” The Hungered sniffed the air, dropping the corpse of the shinaegri in its grasp. It let out a roar and began bounding in their direction.

Pahoran wasn’t really on patrol, as a squire in the sky guard he wasn’t given patrols, but he wasn’t discouraged from taking some independent actions. So it was that on this day the handsome squire had done his leather armor and made his way into the entrance areas of the first level.

After first entering he had spread his wings and taken to the air around the the entrance area. Flying in a these area was very different from flying in the purely open. In some ways easier and hard. Air currents where that key. In some of these area there wasn’t any air currents to glide on so a lot of the movement was sheer wing power. Then if you weren’t careful a surprise current would send you crashing into the wall.

Pahoran actually settled on a ledge near the upper reaches and sat and enjoyed the view below him. The begins of Warrens below him was a dangerous place but Pah was used to living in danger. He had done so all of his life. Beginning when he was two and the Imperium as assaulted his home and then destroyed it when he was five. For years after his family had traveled and Pahoran had seen dangers at every step. Though despite this familiarity with danger he took it seriously.

He had also been taught hope and gratitude and so had survived the hell hole of his life with a smile and a chirpy attitude. Because of that Pah was smiling as he served the cavern. Soon he did notice a commotion. He stood and launched himself even as he saw another of his winged brothers fly into the battle. Pah glided towards the spot.

As he glided down he pulled on his aethar and summon his longsword. He felt it slowly detached from his innermost being and appeared in his hand. The long blade wasn’t a piece of art but it had been well cared for and was much loved by its pact mate.

Feeling more comfortable with his weapon on hand he saw a Somaval. The young guard felt like gaging at the hideous creature but control the reflex with no problem. This was a simple monster to kill, though while touch and nasty Pah was aware that there were more difficult creatures lurking in the depths below.

The two attacking the creature appeared fairly competent and well armed. So Pahoran didn’t necessarily feel that he was needed but everything in him told him he couldn’t just abandon someone to a fight alone. His training as a guard fought against that and his secret upbringing screamed even louder against such behavior. So catching the air current that rushed into the cave young Pah used its strength to carry him forward sliced at the creatures up parts. He did manage to injure the creature but for something like that creature it was like being bit by a wasp. Painful but overly harmful. It did distract the creature even as the Avialae glided past it. Then with rapid flaps so as not to get sucked into the cave Pah flapped and veered out of the air current to land on the top of the ravine. The creature was now distracted and Pahoran prepared for the next stage of the battle hoping the others would see and take an opening even as the creature tried to find away up the steep walls to get at the blood bag that hurt it.

He came like a falcon, diving out of the skies on an air current that helped carry his strike forward, slicing through blubbery flesh and fetid pustules. Talon saw a flash of white feathered wings followed by the angry bellow of the somaval monstrosity that lumbered forward.

Who is that?” Aoren’s voice came beside him. He glanced at his companion.

I do not know but his help is welcome.” Talon did not waste the opportunity that the arrival of this stranger provided. He spread his wings and sprinted forward. Reaching for the pool of his aether, he called forth one of his well-used abilities in Kinetics. He narrowed his eyes on a spot just past the somaval’s body. The weave of the aether flux came into his view. He tossed out his aether and wove it into the fabric of the flux. The technique of seeming was one that Talon found was often underappreciated in the realm of kineticists. He found it immensely useful when he needed to make rapid and tight maneuvers that wouldn’t have otherwise been possible on his own. He felt the pull of his seeming as soon as it fell into place. Talon was launched into the air. He arced just out of the reach of a swipe of claws aimed at swatting him out of the sky. Even in its anger, Hungered beasts still possessed an insidious intelligence. As he passed across the flank of the creature, Talon brought up his blade. The fire that his companion had enmeshed the sword in, flared to life and blazed across its flesh. It left a charred slice in its flank that severed at least a few tentacles of ragged skin that had hung off of its body. The creature roared in anger, swinging an arm toward Talon.

Talon narrowly dodged out of the way. As he was rolling however, several of the still intact tendrils shot forward, reaching for Talon. Caught by surprise, Talon had just enough time to raise the barrier that he had anchored to his forearm. The tendrils slammed into it, shattering the barrier, one of them crashing right into his chest. He felt the wind get knocked out of him as he was sent falling back. His fall was stopped short as one of the tendrils wrapped around one of his legs, yanking him back toward the somaval. Talon raised his sword instinctively only for another tentacle to snake out and wrap around his torso, pinning his arms to his sides. He grunted as the air was once again force from his lungs as the appendage constricted around him.

Talon!” He heard his companion call out to him. Talon’s head was spinning slightly from the force of the impact and the wind that had been forced from his lungs. He had made a critical mistake, discounting those fleshy appendages as little more than rags of skin hanging off of the creature. He grunted as he concentrated and began tugging on his aether in order to force the tendrils away from his body by wrapping himself in a shell of kinetic force. The somaval however, was rapidly pulling Talon toward its maw. Jagged, cracked and yellowed teeth opened wide revealing several rows that could shred his flesh and snap his bones. He struggled against the grasp, trying to breathe and also concentrate enough to force the appendage away from his body.

---

Aoren leapt into the air, his eyes immediately going wide with horror as he saw Talon get ensnared by the fleshy tendrils of the Hungered monster. He spread his wings and flapped moving to intersect the creature’s grip only to be forced to swerve out of the way as it swung a clawed arm toward him.

Damn!” Pooling his aether, Aoren replicated the forms of his pact swords, raising them into the air as he invoked the power of Dancing. He hurled the duplicated blades at the somaval’s head forcing it to raise an arm to protect itself. Aoren then leapt for Talon, raising his burning blades in order to sever the tendrils holding him in place. He was barred from doing so as the creature swung its body and pulled Talon out of his grasp. He heard his companion and bondmate grunt in pain as he struggled. He did not let that deter him. His eyes went to the white winged stranger.

Help him! Please!” Aoren leapt forward, sinking his blades into the flesh of the somaval, distracting it enough to keep it from devouring his companion.

Pahoran only settle for a moment on the ravines rim. Safely out of the control of the air current that would have dragged him into the cave Pah was able to reorientate himself and looked into the battle below him. The other two men had taken the chance to and engage that monstrosity fully. The young guard saw how quickly a battle could turn as one of the Avialae was suddenly wrapped in the creatures tentacles. He was also able to observe that one of them was a Reaver like himself.

Pahoran didn’t just stand there as the battle was going on he bunched his muscles along his back and chest and launched himself into the air again. Once he was in the air he flapped and glided to position himself, already planning on helping even as there was a desperate cry for help. There were risks always when one went into battle but the code he had been brought up with dictated that saving a life was most important. Pah pulled in his wings and allowed gravity carry his two hundred pounds to the ground. As he fell he pulled his legs up into his body while holding his blade down. The wind rushed passed him as he speed towards the ground. His ice blue eyes open and focused on his target.

No one is prepared to have a two hundred canon ball land on the and a tentacle is no different. Especially when the weight is used to drive a sharp blade into the tentacle and nearly cutting it off. The Somaval convulsed and its thrashing threw Pah to the side leaving his blade partly embedded in the dirty.

The tentacle continued to thrash causing it the blade to rip though one side of the tentacle. While it was still wrapped around the eagle wings Avialae most of the strength had gone out of its squeeze as it was now only held on by a slim piece of flesh and muscle and was now spasming.

Pahoran tried to roll as he was thrown from the creature but it was more of a bouncing slid roll. Either way the large youth did allow that to slow him down. He quickly bounded up and held out one hand returning his blade. With his other hand he grabbed a rock and threw it at the creatures gapping maw. The sword wobbled and the flew across the open space back towards his waiting hand. Pah could feel a scrap from rolling on ground on his cheek. His normally smiling expression was an annoyed frown as he jumped forward and slashed at the creature before jumping back. He wasn’t sure how effective it would on this creature but he partly unfolded his wings and crawled trying to give himself a bigger more intimidating presence. He didn’t spend much time doing that before moving in to slice at another smaller tentacle waving in his direction.

Talon felt air rush back into his lungs as the white winged Avialae dropped out of the sky and skewed his blade on the tentacle primarily constricting him. With his ability to breathe returned to him, Talon managed to think clearly. He called forth his aether, sending a pulse of kinetic force out from his body and knocking the other tentacles away. His ankle and leg were released sending him tumbling out of the sky. He immediately spread his wings to catch himself managing to glide to the ground. As he landed, he rolled out of the way of an angry attempt to pound him into the dirt. He just narrowly missed being crushed under the bulk of one of the somaval’s twisted legs. Jumping back to his feet, Talon jumped away from the giant creature. He watched as Aoren leapt into the air, taking flight and spinning as he did so. He severed a few tendrils that reached for him, avoiding being ensnared by them. The creature roared its frustration as it was slashed by the white winged Avialae.

Talon scanned the area until his eyes came to rest on his sword. He sprinted toward it, sliding the last few feet across the dirt and water on the ground before snatching it up. The young Novalys darted forward to join his two brethren in the fight. He dodged out of the way of a low swinging arm then slashed his sword across the bulky muscles of the creature’s nearest leg. The fire that still enmeshed his sword from his companion’s elemental mastery, flared to life, scorching the flesh. Talon did not rest then. He sprung out of the way, swinging his sword in a circular series of moves, slicing at the tentacles that sprung out from the somaval as it tried in vain to grab him once more. Each tendril was slashed and burned by the movements of Talon’s sword.

Talon!” He glanced to see his companion tuck his wings in close and dive out of the way of one of the creature’s arms. Using his double swords, Aoren hacked at the joint of what Talon assumed was the somaval’s elbow once he got his bearing. He did not need to share a bond with his companion to know what his intention was. Talon had just enough time to establish another anchor and bring up a barrier against physical force when one of the creature’s arms came barreling in his direction. Talon felt himself get pushed back by the sheer strength of the somaval’s punch. His barrier was immediately shattered but the silver winged Avialae was able to maneuver out of the way of the appendage thanks to the delay created by his barrier. He jumped back several leaps and then rolled until he had the arm that Aoren was hacking away at in his sights.

Gathering his aether, Talon concentrated on the weave of the flux. He gathered could see the flow of it around the severed muscles of the somavals joint. Concentrating, Talon zeroed in on the focal point that his companion had created. Something struck him then as he concentrated on that area. He could see the weave of the aether flux but more than that, he could see how it branched not just around them but how there were the makings of threads inside of the creature he was focused on. It...surprised him. He concentrated on those pathways until they became more clear as he realized he could see not just the weave that made up the world around him but he could also make out the flow of what was inside of the creature as well. He glanced at Aoren and the white winged Avialae and blinked as he realized he could see the makings of such pathways inside them as well.

ANY TIME NOW, TALON!” His companion’s voice broke through his amazement making Talon focus back on the Hungered. The young Novalys sent not a blast of kinetic energy at large but rather tore a hole in the flow of the aether flux inside of the joint of the creature.

MOVE!” He did not need to repeat it as his companion leapt out of the way. The effect was nearly instant as the aether flux rushed back into the space that Talon had created. The somaval creature let out a shriek of agony as its joint exploded, bones, muscle and gore showering the immediate area. Splintering was a power that Talon had recently learned but he was beginning to realize just how devastating its effects could be. He looked to the white winged warrior.

Brother! Target its limbs!

Pahoran could see the silvered wing battle mage break free from the tentacle even as he continued to move. The blaster thing had so many of those tentacles. The young man remembered what his father had said, that a battle of the blade was like a dance, and for the Avialae it was a true beauty as the ground was the no longer the only field.

Pah leaped forward and slashed at two of the smaller tentacles that lashed out in his direction. Pahoran was aware of the other two moving about him. They danced with magic and blade. Not that Pah didn’t as well but his was much simpler magic with much simpler skills but that didn’t slow him down. By himself he couldn’t have taken this thing down but dancing with his brothers the creature wasn’t sure where exactly to attack.

Pahoran did see every attack but by the creatures responds he could tell that flame and blade were doing their damage. Sudden the white wing young man heard the silver winged brother shout for them to move and Pah jumped back. He moved out of reach enough from the main explosion but had raise one of his wings to keep from being covered in body parts.

His ice blue gaze was amazed that the thing was still moving at that point. He didn’t allow that slow him down as he leapt into the air and took a couple wing beats before diving down again. This time he focuses on the limbs themselves. The thing would be a lot less dangerous if it couldn’t move or grab. It came down attacking one of the limbs at the part elbow. Pah didn’t try to take off the whole army but instead cut through the tendon completely as he drew back. As he moved again he saw that limp become a thrashing but useless appendage. Going after the tendons instead taking the whole arm would be easier for some of the bigger limbs. “Wind” Pah called as he spread his wings and flapped them strongly stirring up a breeze and dust even as he stepped forward and slashed at a small tentacle. It slapped the ground and He moved on to another tentacle as he he slashed at yet another tentacle and then dodged back out of the way as the monstrosity grew frustrated with the dust and wind in its face.

As Pah moved out of the way he stepped on a lose rock and half dropped and then rolled away to keep from twisting his ankle. “Does this thing have a serious vulnerable spot” He called even as he launched him self back into a standing position.

"None that I can see!” Talon called back to the warrior’s question.

He moved and flew with the skill of a man learned in battle. That much was clear to Talon. Whoever this warrior was, he was grateful for his presence. Talon brought the weave of the aether flux back into his sight. He could see the ripple of movement as both Aoren and the warrior dove and doged to avoid wild swings or thrashing tendrils that sought to tear them limb from limb. As Aoren hacked away at one of the legs of the creature, Talon focused on that area. He gathered his strength and compressed the point of aether into a concentrated bead of explosive force. This time he did not shout but merely sent a note of warning to his companion across their bond. The message was received and his bondmate swiftly moved out of the way. Talon released the bead of force sending it smashing into the joint of one of the Hungered’s legs. The creature let out a moaning wail of pain as it collapsed onto the ground. Bone, blood and sinew hung in strips of cracked and broken viscera off of the creature’s leg.

Still it continued to fight but its struggle was beginning to grow less and less ferocious. The thrashing of the tentacles on its body were less numerous as many of them had been sliced off either by Aoren’s swords or by the white winged warrior. Talon sprinted forward and brought his blade up, swinging it in an arc as a tendril shot up to meet him. He sliced the thing directly in half before cutting it clean off of the stub. Talon then darted in and slashed across the somaval’s abdomen before rolling away from its exposed torso. He then ran around its form, deflecting another tendril with his sword only to slice across the back of the creature’s remaining leg. Jumping away, Talon beat his wings several times, ascending into the air to get away from the creature’s continued thrashing. It’s movements were becoming wilder but weaker as it lost blood from the gaping wounds born of its missing arm and shattered leg. Talon sheathed his sword. It was over. At least, it would be momentarily as he began to gather his kinetic power in order to send a blast down onto the creature’s skull that would crush its head entirely.

It was as the white winged warrior was diving in to lend his assistance yet again that Talon saw the remaining set of tentacles just behind the creature’s neck raise to strike. These ones were different however, they were shorter but they bore something far deadlier. He saw that the tips of them were covered in spiked barbs. Talon’s heart clenched and he dove down just as the tendrils reared back when the warrior got within range. He yanked his aether to the forefront of his mind and quickly placed an anchor upon both of his arms. Talon watched as one of the creature’s last remaining regular tentacles lashed out at the white winged warrior, likely in an effort to distract. Whether it was successful for not, those barbed tendrils would leave terrible wounds and he had no idea whether they were poisonous or not. Talon would not afford the creature the chance.

He brought up a shield with a simple task, merely to block physical force. Knowing simply letting himself fall would not be swift enough, Talon reached out and joined the flow of his movement to that of the solid ground. The effect was immediate as he was yanked toward the solid earth just as the barbed tendrils lashed out. Talon brought his arms up, joining them together and projecting a barrier in front of himself and the other warrior. He landed solidly on the earth barely in time to block the tendrils as they smashed against his barrier making it illuminate in white light. Talon grunted. Several cracks formed in his magical barrier but it was enough to save both the white winged warrior and himself from getting skewered by the deadly looking tendrils. Not a moment later, Aoren streaked through the air, somersaulting over the tendrils and slashing across them. His burning blades cut through the fleshy appendages like butter, cauterizing them at the same time.

Talon did not let down his shield. He did look to the other warrior.

Think you can finish this, brother?” He did not take his eyes off the creature. Its movements had become sluggish but its eyes were still filled with a burning malice, a near insatiable need to maim, kill and devour. Aoren landed just beside the other warrior.

Come. I have your back. Let’s finish this.” Talon glanced over, watching as his companion reached out with his flames and wrapped them around the warrior’s sword lending fire to his already skillful display of swordsmanship. With that done, the raven winged Avialae sprinted forward drawing the creature’s attention. It raised its remaining arm, bringing it forward in a downward strike intended to crush Aoren. Talon would not let that happen. He jumped into action, bringing his barrier up to meet the creature’s strike. The dome of the shield shattered like glass and Talon was sent to his knees but it had the desired effect of deflecting the blow. Aoren was given enough time to leap onto the creature’s back and drive both of his burning swords into the somaval’s shoulder, rendering that arm useless. Talon looked to the white winged warrior.

Now!

Pahoran felt his blade connect with the creature and pulled the blade back, his body dancing the blades man dance. It was as he was in the process of translation back into attack that he had to pull back. Suddenly the silver winged brother was standing before him. He began to divert his movements so he wouldn’t run into the other man.

Being this close Pahoran could tell that the other was doing magic. Not because he was any great mage but because he had watched other mage up close all of his life. Even while Jasper was exposed or would have been without outside help. He saw the two little stingers strike. His blue eyed gaze saw as the smacked against the shield that had been hastily erected.

The third member of the part swung by even as Pahoran stepped back and prepared his sword stance again. It wasn’t hard to see that the thing was slowing down and was become if less dangerous at the lost of its tentacles though with those teeth it was still dangerous.

Pah was surprised when the other asked in he could handle taking the creature out. He had fought with others in the guard but the were usually eager for the kill claim, or like his family who just killed the thing. Pah did focus to long on the invite though as he looked at the creatures glaring malice eye. The young man nodded his head as the third member of the new party swung down and joined them offer his support.

Dodging around the shield Pah center on way and then came from the other direction. The ice blue eyes youth brought his sword up as one of the sliced tentacles waved its bloody end at him. Pah sliced the stump down the middle making it completely useless. He then adjusted the hold on his weapon and the blade that was part of his soul straight into the creatures hungry gaze. Even as the blade with two hundred pounds of weight behind it came in contact with eye the organ exploded and Pahoran felt the momentum of his weapon carry it through the open cavity that connected the brain and eye.

The creature flailing uselessly and tried to move backwards. Pahoran grabbed the hand guard on hilt and used the creatures movements to twist the blade that was now embedded in the brain.

The abomination found a last surge of energy and lumbered forward pressing against the three Avialae and cemented it own death, as Pah held his ground and the creatures own weight drive the blade the last distance into the core of its brain.

Pah pulled his blade free as the twisted corpse collapsed. He managed to moved back as the thing collapsed. Unfortunately the toe of his left boot was under the edge of the creature. The young man sighed and wiggles his boot lose glad that neither his brothers or father were their to see that he had kept completely clear in time.

The young man turned around and looked at the other two who he had fought with. His blue eyes so ice blue in color they could only come from Hytori heritage, had a pleased look to them and his whole frame spoke of a work out as he breathed in that regularly pattern that spoke of good exertion, but there was a please air about him. He smiled but studied the others, noting the silver winged one had the coloring that spoke of elvish heritage. Pah nodded towards him. “Pahoran Rayunia” he offered a warriors ha d greeting even as he took in the other. Like the first also handsome but he had black wings and had brighter coloring with hazel eyes and brown hair. “Please call me Pah, as only my officers and mother call me by my full name.”

LWatching the warrior drive his sword through the eye of the Somaval, Talon felt a bit of relief wash through him. They had done it. The fight was over. Hungered were some of the most dangerous of the creatures that made their way to the surface from time to time. The amount of destruction they could bring down upon homes and people due to their sheer size alone was concerning. It made Talon’s heart swell with pride, however, knowing that theirs was a city that was well equipped to handle such threats. With the battle over, Talon helped his companion down from the arm of the slain creature.

Are you alright?” Talon looked over his companion’s form but other than a few cuts, he could spot no serious injury. Aoren blinked at him.

Me? I should be asking you that.” The two smiled at each other before turning their attention to the white winged warrior. White plumage was uncommon among the Avialae, despite what one might have thought. Darker wings, such as black, brown, or speckled were far more frequent. Talon's grey eyes lingered on the man's wings for a moment as he studied the warrior. He was tall in stature but that was not unusual for Avialae. Wearing the adornments of one of the Sky Guard, he cut an impressive figure. Even as he freed his boot from beneath the bulk of the fallen creature, he had a spirited and noble bearing about him. When the man turned, Talon noted the icy quality of his eyes. Being of elven heritage himself, Talon was familiar enough with some of the hallmark traits to take note of it. He found he did not recognize the man which was strange as Talon liked to believe he had at least a passing familiarity with most of the Avialae families in Kalzasi. If not by name, then by recognizing familial traits. This man drew a blank and he was not familiar with the Rayunia family. When he received the warrior’s greeting, Talon returned it in kind.

I am Talon, First Son of House Novalys. This is--” He grunted as Aoren suddenly wrapped an arm around his shoulder and tugged him in close.

Aoren. Just, Aoren.” The raven winged warrior gave a nod to Pahoran. “You are an impressive fighter, Pah. It is good that you came when you did. I am not so sure that things would have gone the way they did without you.

Talon disentangled himself from his companion’s grasp by giving Aoren a light jab in the ribs. The warrior flinched and released him, raising his hands to ward off any further prodding.

I am headed down into the Warrens--” He was interrupted by a clearing of a throat as Aoren folded his arms over his chest. “We are headed down into the Warrens in search of a particular type of dragonshard. It should not be terribly difficult to find. Another sword at our backs would be appreciated. You are welcome to join us.

Talon took out a cloth and began cleaning the gore from his blade. There was not much as a good portion of it had been burned off by the fire that his companion had blessed his sword with. Still, it was a habit born from years of swordplay.

His shoe free of the corpse and introductions underway. The young man could feel himself being scrutinized by the other two Avialae. He two pulled out a cloth and began to whip down his own blade. He took special care to make sure it was shinny and all to keep it in the best of conditions. Do to the pact he held with the blade he liked to keep it in good condition.

Pah could still tell he was being analyzed, specifically his wings. The young man was fully aware that wing colors were hereditary and they ranged across the spectrum though he couldn’t have recognized any lineages by their color traits.

After extending the greeting he was preparing to return the blade to where it belonged when he heard the silver winged man’s introduction. Pah was well aware of that family name and what his rather abruptly ended. So Talon of the silver wings was a noble, Pah bowed his head but watched to see if there was any indication of more needed. This man’s family was technically the patrons of the guards so in a way his boss. Not that Pah would behave different but it was something to consider.

The other man, Aoren, introduced himself and Pah extended a warrior’s greeting to him as well. “Thank you.” He said at the compliment. “I am not as good as you two, but I try to make the guard and my family proud.” His eyes danced. “I am glad that I could be of help.”

While Talon began to explain what they were doing that particular day Pahoran finished cleaning his weapon, but his attention was focused on the conversation. They were hunting a particular type of dragon shard. It sounded interesting and Pahoran didn’t have anything else that needed his attention. He was actually surprised that the first son of any great house would be doing such activities and so his respect for him rose more then just his title could.

“I would love to help.” Pahoran said, then he said, “One moment please.” He said as he dematerialized his pact weapon. The ice blue eyes widened at the sudden impact of the pain and damaged inflicted upon the weapon. Pah wasn’t sure what else they would face and figured that it would be best to return the blade to were it could rest as it would come again when he needed it, but it would also spread the pain over a couple of event instead of compounding it all at the end.

The Avialae continued to stand even as the pain raced up and down his body. He continued to smile but he gritted his teeth and slowly breathed to fight the pain. Eventually the initial shock wore off and Pah could move and talk again. “So what type of dragonshared are you looking for?” He asked his voice normal as he began to whip monster gore off of his armor. His commander wouldn’t be happy if he didn’t keep his armor clean, and his mother would give him that look. Maintaining his equipment was something that every person he knew had taught him from childhood. “It would be good to explore and learn more about the Warrens as well.”
