Kaus may or may not have raised a challenging eyebrow up at Raithen from where he had crouched for a moment to give feline greetings. Despite his generally cheerful mien, he would have been happy just then as a wallflower, a cat in his lap for pets so he could observe without having to be in the middle of things. He knew how to be the third wheel when Kala was with the hostess or her other two guests, but he wasn't sure how he ought to code-switch among all three of them. He was the easier at socializing, but Kala was the more purposeful.

He rather thought Phocion might similarly be more comfortable quiet on the outskirts of the interaction. Kala had learned to deflect attention away from him; it was a small sort of service for the elf she might marry, and he was always forthcoming with his observations after the fact when she provided him more space to be an observer.

Ladies first seemed to be the order of the day. Once everyone had a glass in hand, Kala brought hers to her nose, and then her lips, taking the smallest of sips just to sample. Kaus' sip was more voluminous, but he would argue that he was larger than she and so must perforce take a larger sip. Perhaps Raithen would want him to flap down to Æterna Noctis after digestifs, knowing Kala would almost certainly retire to quieter pastimes if Phocion invited her.

While Kala glanced in Sviras' direction with a faint smile, Kaus angled to sit next to Raithen. The twins would sit wherever their hostess bade them, but if they continued logically based on their positions now, Phocion would sit between the woman he courted and her brother, and Hilana between her lover and Kala.

"We will have to remedy that the next time you are in Kalzasi," Kala noted, her eyes returning to her hostess. "Our gardens aren't nearly so lush as Master Sivan's, but they are protected from the worst of Karnor's winter, and there are some transplants from our mountainous home."

The drink he was offered was to his liking, though not from a bottling he'd had before. The first swallow expressed the smokey green flavors he expected, but there were other hints behind the main. A nod and an appreciative smile towards Hilana were his thanks, as the conversation continued to move.

When the group moved toward the dining room, Hilana in the lead, followed by the false-feather pair, Raithen turned his eyes to Kaus, gave a tiny impression of a bow and offered his own arm to escort the remaining twin through to the dining room. The evening was an odd combination of formal and informal; not nearly so much of the first as he was used to when dining with Phocion, and not nearly so much of the second as when usually dining with Hilana. He could play between the two extremes, and hopefully Kaus was in the mood for a little play.

When they arrived and found their seats, Raithen was between Kaus and Hilana, a position that might have offered intriguing opportunities in an even less formal situation. As it was, with everyone seated around the circular table, they could all see and converse with each other easily. If the Dux' hands strayed under the table to squeeze anything interesting, it was only briefly, as there was food to be had.

While Hilana began to pass the meat, Raithen took the initiative to pass the salad, knowing he would be allowed to eat sooner if he was helpful. He wanted to ask what the purpose of the twins' visit was, both because he was curious and because it would let him know if he could ask for any of their time, but their business might be of a sort they did not wish to discuss. So, instead, he waited to see if the conversation would sate his curiosity.

"I didn't, no," Hilana answered Phocion when he inquired about a seating plan. She had figured to let the pairs of siblings sit where they like, which was perhaps a mistake on her part. Her table was hardly big enough for multiple separate conversations all at once, unlike some of the more massive formal settings that her guests with higher status were used to. "I wasn't sure if you would like to sit by Lady Kala or sit with Raithen." She did have to remember that this wasn't like having Raithen and Finn over, guests who came regularly, and were by and large familiar with her place. Though she did hope that there would be other such visits. Perhaps after they investigated Isla Celatium... She did watch to make sure that everyone was okay with their drink; if not, she could get them something else.

"I would love that," she beamed at Kala. "I just came back from two weeks there, but I do try to visit fairly regularly now when the opportunity strikes. Master Sivan made Lia this absolutely adorable little golem last season and contracted a fire spirit for it... he's a lot of fun." Kalor and his golem body had been checked by customs when they came back - the Vastiana knew the drill for bringing things back in by now. Kalor was quite a bit of fun, and Sviras had found him interesting, at least, and their discussion had been something. "Raithen told me about his visit to Starfall, and he spoke so highly of it." When he'd gone, they'd talked a lot nightly through the mirrors he had had made for the pair of them, but if they didn't know that, Hilana was not about to bring it up.

"Have you been busy traveling, or have you been mostly in Kalzasi at court? Will you be staying a while? I'm hoping that we will be able to go visit another Elemental Plane soon, and perhaps Prince Phocion will accompany us again to the next one," she inquired, helping pass the food around. She knew that look on her Lux's eyes when there was this type of food in front of him, and it was better to get to it. "I was thinking maybe the Plane of Metal next, and Raithen might find that one interesting... Anyway, this is a fig and goat cheese salad, and the lamb chops have some traditional flavouring to them. Oregano, garlic, and lemon." She had left off the pomegranate sauce she might have normally have used because she didn't want sweet on top of sweet, what with the figs in the salad.

Phocion was content to taste of his brandy when others had begun to sip at their drinks. His draft was closer to Kaus’ in volume than Kala’s, as he gulped down a mouthful of brandy.

“Is Sivan someone of whom I ought to be aware?” He inquired with an arched eyebrow as Kala and their hostess had an exchange about Kalzasi. He imagined he was overdue for a visit himself, so perhaps introductions could be made if this Sivan seemed worthy of his attention. Kalzasi’s chaotic energy was just a lot for Phocion’s orderly mind.

“Ah.” Phocion was content to use Kala’s presumed seating arrangement when it seemed things were leading in that direction, which put him roughly across from his brother.

Although Phocion often eschewed the honours of his princely station in favour of his sentinel status, he was accustomed to being served in either role. He seemed momentarily befuddled when a salad was passed into his hands.

“Oh…” He was observant at least and realised he was meant to claim his own portion and deliver it into his own plate. This was not so far out of his frame of reference. He just wasn’t used to serving himself when there wasn’t a slave to hold the bowl or platter for him.

He would have to send her a slave as a thank you gift. He couldn’t fathom how one could host as well as do all the cooking and cleaning without dedicated servants. Hilana was becoming attached to matters of too much import to be distracted with such trivialities when her mind ought to be committed to the task of serving the Dynasy.

The twins were, of course, pleased that their home had made a good impression upon Raithen. They had only shared the more rustic parts; the truly impressive parts remained a secret and likely would until Kala's divinity became common knowledge and House Leukos sued for independence.

"Oh, Metal," Kala said as she passed the salad. When Phocion seemed confused, she held the bowl so he could focus on the tongs. The Leukos twins had been raised to be as comfortable during a high feast in a foreign court as an impromptu meal in the kitchen, though she hadn't actually prepared a meal in—well, she would have to think about that one. "Yes, that would be lovely. And we have spent most of the time since you graciously included us in your trip to the Wood plane in Kalzasi. In a few weeks, we will be attending a party in Silfanore... at least, it begins in Silfanore. They do tend to have doors cleverly hiding portals and one never knows where one will end up."

She didn't balk at mentioning Sol'Valen. Phocion knew, and he seemed to be taking a pragmatic page from his newly awakened Gods, who seemed ready to set aside past prejudices and face the future. Hilana still clung to their old, established ways, however; Kala remembered her faux pas, mentioning the Orkhan intelligentsia in Kalzasi. That hadn't gone well.

"I have to go back and fetch the next volume in a series for Phocion." She smiled fondly at him. "He has made a smuggler of me."

And to keep Phocion up on other players on the wider field, "Master Sivan is the business partner of a runesmith sworn to House Leukos' service. He is an accomplished alchemist, artificer, and—to wit—summoner."

Kala didn't immediately identify Sviras as other than one of Hilana's pet serpents; she didn't know him, but she recognized what he was and calculated no risk to her suitor. Later, she might tell him that Hilana had a summoned wild spirit.

If Kala had met Hilana at the Citadel that housed the Custodes Deorum, she assumed the woman came by her runes and her spiritual companions with an eye to the letter and the spirit of Solunarian law.

"Will you come fly with us while we're here?" Kaus asked Raithen.

When the dishes had been passed, Raithen tucked into his portions quickly. It was so automatic to just eat when food was in front of him that he could do it without his attention slipping from what conversation or company was available. The meat was crisp on the outside and just shy of rare. A part of his mind always pushed against the polite forms of dining that had been his only way since he'd first been given solid foods as an infant. That part wanted to rip into the flesh until the bloody juices ran down his face. Where this primal urge came from, he didn't know, not having bothered to investigate when it had first appeared. It simply existed in him but never caused him to have to fight to tame it, so it was of no import.

He wasn't sure why he might find one elemental plane more interesting than another, but he nodded to their hostess. Being game for whatever dangerous situations that those present might need him for was a given, in his mind.

Being equally ignorant of the new person being mentioned, he listened to Kala answer Phocion, watching the interaction between them. The Lady's manner had changed towards her brother since Raithen had last seen them together, it was warmer. Warmer than most people were wisely willing to openly express towards the Sentinel. More than Raithen himself was.

Filling his mouth with the sweet and salty salad, he tried to remember if he'd ever seen anyone react to Phocion before in a way he would have described as 'warm'. Kala had a great capacity for it, both twins did, but she also had an exquisite sense of what appropriate and desired in specific situations. Turning his eyes to his brother, Raithen failed to detect any of the suppressed distaste that was often present when others behaved in a way that displeased.

Kaus' voice brought him back into the moment, and he perked up into a smile.

"The question, Leukos, is if the two of you can come flying with me." A paused, a smirk, "And if you can keep up."

Hilana supposed she shouldn't have been surprised about Lady Kala and Lord Kaus going to Silfanore, considering she represented Kalzasi. Kalzasi, after all, had no real beef with the Hytori homeland, especially since Arcas had come with Raxen's horde there, and Arcas reborn was the unofficial leader of the northern city-state. But her expression definitely registered surprise, and she glanced at Phocion to gauge his reaction to that news. When it was followed up with the fact she was bringing him things from there, the Vastiana decided to keep her mouth shut. She may have disapproved, but it wasn't her place to say anything in that regard, and there was no reason to bring down the mood of the meal. It wasn't like Kala was going to Ecith for a tea party...

Even if a trio of Orkhan had helped Rickter, Hilana still did not like them. She may have been polite when she saw them on the streets of Kalzasi when she was visiting friends, but she did not go out of her way to interact with them and she had no problem crossing the street to avoid the tusked greenskins. But she probably couldn't talk, either: Sivan was her Summoning paedagogus, after all, and he was definitely an Elf... But he lived in Kalzasi. He didn't count. Still, Kala had summed him up nicely and she was did learn that Torin was sworn to House Leukos.

"I'd enjoy seeing that, watching the three of you fly. Though I would need a wyvern to try and keep up," her grin turned wicked as she cut into the lamb chop with knife and fork nefore scooping up the piece with a torn chunk of pita to take a neat bite. "Though I think Prince Phocion could best the bunch of us with his Kinetics, if he was of a mind to do so," the Vastiana smiled at the Moonborn. She had not forgotten his display at Kaladon, after all, and she knew from experience with Rickter and Raithen that the Rune could be utilized as a burst of speed.

She did wonder how that might fare against a wyvern at full speed, but perhaps some things weren't meant to be tried.

“Gratias, My Lady.” Phocion did, in fact, purse his lips into a slight scowl as Sol’Valen was mentioned. He hadn’t wished to begrudge Kala a visit or two, but was not thrilled with it seeming to become a more regular haunt. Still, the diplomat did not articulate those concerns. Certainly not in present company, and likely not in private unless it became a real issue.

Phocion arched a brow at his brother’s blithe banter with the winged twins, seeming to assert a dominance in flight that the elder sibling imagined overstated. Recognising it to be playful one-upmanship, he would not voice his doubts and embarrass his sensitive sibling. The Raven, for once arrayed in regalia apropos of that moniker, knew his words bore, in his opinion, undue gravity to the Goldfinch.

“Oh, you surely flatter my capabilities, Hilana.” He demurred as he turned his attention to his salad and took a delicate bite. After swallowing that down and running his tongue over his teeth, he leaned in to Kala and whispered, while his eyes lay absently upon Raithen’s visage, merely because he was across from him.

“Will you be laying your head in the Umbrium this evening after you’ve tired of whatever hijinx my brother would have you brook?” His eyes darted to Kala as, smirking, he withdrew enough to look at her properly.

"Oh, Duck," he said, as if pitying Raithen for being an exceptionally slow, if sweet child.

But to Hilana, he brightened. "If you can secure a wyvern, you definitely should!"

Kaus had grown up with a sister denied her place in the skies; if anyone wanted to fly and had the means, he would support it.

"We seem to have impressed the royal family of Sol'Valen," Kala added, not apologetically, but carefully. "The Hytori aren't known for welcoming envoys from abroad or sending them out. Given the Imperium's role in the assassination of our former Shokaze, our current Shokaze would like to be on good terms with them as they could turn the tide should there ever be a full conflict with the Imperium." She didn't add the possibility of Zaichaer and its allies joining them, or even the Sangen Federation, although they had less contact with them. Some saw contact with Solunarium as superfluous, and yet the Leukos twins continued to visit and invite friends they made there to visit Kalzasi and their home in the mountains.

"I will not lie and say my time there is unpleasant, but while my primary concerns there are Kalzasern and trade-related, I am not putting their interests above Solunarium's. In any case, I may not be welcome there forever." She looked to Phocion. Whether she had intuited Hilana's askance or thought she might have spoken out of place by Phocion's standards, she would speak frankly if they had questions or concerns. And if she did wed Phocion, she would certainly lose whatever favored dignitary status she held.

The elves of Sol'Valen didn't think of their Solunarian cousins often, and the break was ancient. They remembered it, but she sensed no great enmity any longer, just a tradition of opposition. She would not share her opinion on the value or relevance of that, however. Neither of them were her people, and so it was not her place.

As for Phocion's question, her voice dropped somewhat to say, "I would imagine Kaus will go out to play. I plan to retire to the Umbrium when we quit Hilana's hospitality for the evening, unless you had some other plans?"

"They have Avialae there as well," Kaus told Raithen and Hilana, "although, like here, they consider themselves elves first, and Avialae second. Does anyone know how the crown prince's husband is doing in Drathera? That seems a clever gambit, sending a loyal foreigner in the place of whoever might be a more obvious envoy." He remembered seeing Phocion and his honor guard arriving in Kalzasi on wyvernback. The man courting his sister was a deft diplomat, but there were centuries of bad blood between the Re'hyæan elves and the Ecithian orkhan.

Raithen grinned around his bite of food, winking in return wickedness at their host as she made what likely everyone, save perhaps Phocion, would know to be a reference to the trysts he had shared with the angelic appearing twins. Fucking and flying were not activities that meshed well together, however much the writings of lesser purveyors of smut combined them. The Raven had rarely had the opportunity to see his brother flying, and perhaps never in circumstances that might show off his skill. The Goldfinch was an equal match for Kaus, and outmatched the less experienced Lady Kala by a good deal. Even so, he was not foolish enough to try to engage in fornication and flight together. A quick grope during a flyby, perhaps, but no more. The reality of air currents and moving at speed would not have been suited to even a kiss without significant risk to both partners.

Kinetics was another matter, and all at the table, except his dark sibling, had experienced aerial ardor involving the Rune. Some acts were just so much easier when one was not constrained by the pull of gravity and others only available thus. Of this usage of the Rune, Raithen imagined, Phocion was fully aware, even if nothing of it had been included in his extensive training of his younger brother.

Said younger brother was just opening his lips to offer a playful retort to the affectionate moniker when his eyes caught on the dark pair across from him. Phocion was not speaking to him, but low to the Lady, and... Was he flirting? Was Phocion flirting with Kala?

A frown crossed the golden brow, not reaching his well-trained mouth, but not diminishing as his eyes darted between the starlight and the shadow. Kala's response did not quell the idea, nor did it reject it, even as politely as she would have done. That she would not join Kaus and Raithen in whatever excursions they chose had not occurred to him. He had even vaguely considered seeing if the dinner party could become another sort once Phocion took his leave.

The golden head tilted, slight but distinct to one who knew him, it was his seeking look.

"Why are you in Solunarium? I forgot to ask." The tone hadn't changed, but his hands had gone still on the table-top.

He did know why Finn was away but wasn't about to reveal state information to foreigners without speaking to either his mother or his brother about it first. Even ones he was so emotionally entangled with, so he left Phocion to answer Kaus' question while keeping his eyes pinned on Kala for an answer to his own.
