Fr'uvaki, the Fleet Breaker

Name: Fr'uvaki, the Fleet Breaker
Location: The Crystal Sea
Elemental Alignment: Light

History and Public Info:

Fru'vaki is one of the more recently discovered Primals. While it is believed to have existed for a long time, it is theorized to have gone unnoticed in the Crystal Sea until sea traffic grew rapidly. In years prior to its discovery, many ships disappeared without any survivors, and many now believe that Fru'vaki could have been a large contributor to this. However, its name was given at the battle that has been called the Night the Sun Shown, Searing 12 105, during the Imperial invasion of Ecith.

Imperial navy was blockading and bombarding the battered city of Dratir, after having delivered armies of ground troops to head inland. Victory seemed assured for the Imperium. Night fell, but the Imperial bombardment of the city continued. Then, one of the three flagships from the Imperium, each bearing a Fleet Admiral, evaporated in a great ball of light. No one had ever seen a weapon like that, and none knew where it came from. Soon after, another ship evaporated in such a manner. One after the other, ships were decimated, until the remaining Fleet Admiral gave the word to conduct a full scale retreat.

As the sun rose, the bay around Dratir was littered with burnt wood and bodies, and even as the Imperial navy was retreating, they were still being picked off one at a time by an enemy they couldn't see. As the sun grew higher, they finally saw Fr'uvaki appear, eating the charred bodies and wood alike. The three fleets that the Imperium sent, roughly 800 ships in total, was decimated, reduced to a few dozen. The surviving admiral described the situation exactly as he saw it to the Emperor, but was executed for his failure and for what they believed were lies being told to the Emperor.

Fru'vaki still remains a menace to ships in the Crystal Sea, regardless of national affiliation. Sea captains have said that, unlike the other Primals in the Crystal Sea, Fru'vaki is especially difficult to avoid due to how small and mobile it is. Ships simply do not see it coming until it is too late. However, the Ecithian captains have devised partnerships through their Animus mages with local wildlife in the seas, to give captains early warning so that they can retreat or abandon ship where necessary. It is not a perfect system, but it is what they have discovered so far.

Fru'vaki is a mantis-shrimp Primal, aligned with the Light Elemental Plane. It preys upon anything it can eat, and is only the size of a schooner. It seems to have developed a taste for ships and their crews. Its mantis-shrimp style punch has been amplified by the affiliation with the Light Elemental Plane, causing miniature supernovas when it strikes. Its territory is typically the more central portions of the Crystal Sea, as those are the deeper waters, but it appears willing to venture into shallows where more ships travel in order to feed.

Recent History: As of Ash 122, with the beginning of the Eclipse, Fru'vaki appears to have greatly expanded his range to include all of the Crystal Sea, his powers have increased greatly, and is even more aggressive towards ships and harbors.
